Carum Basra

Head of Advocacy and Campaigns

Portrait of Carum Basra

Carum leads di:ga’s advocacy and campaigns work, helping organisations sharpen their policy asks, build coalitions and influence decision-makers. He brings experience across campaigns, policy and public affairs, spanning issues including online safety, environmental policy and corporate governance. He is particularly interested in how under-resourced organisations can build influence and drive change in crowded policy environments.

Before joining di:ga, he was Deputy Director of Engagement at Unchecked UK, where he led engagement across a coalition of more than 70 organisations, acted as a spokesperson for the campaign, and represented the group with political stakeholders on proposals to strengthen regulation and accountability. Prior to that, at Purpose Union, he led advocacy for the Better Business Act, one of the UK’s largest responsible business campaigns, backed by more than 1,000 companies.

Earlier in his career, Carum was Senior Policy Adviser at the Institute of Directors, where he helped establish the IoD Centre for Corporate Governance and develop policy positions on issues including stakeholder governance, sustainable capitalism and emerging technologies. He began his career at Finsbury (now FGS Global), advising clients across sectors including technology, transport and telecommunications on political, regulatory and corporate reputation issues. In his spare time, Carum enjoys cooking, reading and long walks with his family in London.
