Humanitarian communications

Plan

Training and advice to improve the impact of Plan's communications in emergencies.

Plan International are one of the largest children's charities in the world, with a mission to advance children’s rights and fight for gender equality. The team at Plan UK approached di:ga for help with the way they communicate about their work on humanitarian emergencies. Plan is best known for their child sponsorship programme but their efforts to support children and their families caught up in conflict or natural disasters is an increasingly important part of their work.

We reviewed Plan's current communications on disasters and carried out a series of interviews with stakeholders. We then ran two workshops with press officers, digital media officers and humanitarian response staff, exploring the opportunities for more effective, impactful communications to help drive action from governments and engagement and donations from the public. We produced new templates and guidelines and a 'how to' for humanitarian emergencies, and left the team equipped and inspired to respond to the next crisis.

di:ga really listened and understood our needs and found creative ways to address the challenges we faced. I’d thoroughly recommend them. They are both professional and fun to work with.
