Impactful storytelling techniques

The Alliance for Gender Equality in Europe helps strengthen small, frontline organisations working on gender equality in Europe. It supports their efforts to improve the lives of individuals, while simultaneously addressing the underlying structures and power dynamics that uphold inequality and exclusion.

Against a backdrop of political polarisation, shrinking civic space and rising anti-feminist narratives, being able to communicate impact is more important than ever to achieve these aims. We were invited by the Alliance to lead a storytelling workshop designed to upskill grantees working to improve gender equality all over Europe.

Through a combination of theory and hands-on exercises, this in-person workshop covered the basics of storytelling as well as how to ensure these stories resonate with target audiences. Over the course of the session, we drilled down into how to draw on purpose for storytelling using the golden circle method, and then how to adapt these stories for different scenarios and contexts.
