Preventing mass atrocities

The Jo Cox Foundation

Helping to finish a report by Jo Cox MP on the Responsibility to Protect.

It was an enormous privilege to be asked to help complete a report started by Jo Cox MP before she was killed. The report, which Jo started with Conservative MP Tom Tugendhat and Professor John Bew of King's College London, argues that the UK should retain an active, interventionist foreign policy, and uphold its commitment made at the UN in 2005 to protect civilians at risk of genocide or crimes against humanity. It argues that "knee-jerk anti-interventionism" is not in the UK's national interest, nor in the interests of the poorest and most vulnerable in the world.

di:ga helped complete the draft which was unfinished at the time of Jo's death, working alongside Tom and John, and with Jo's friend and fellow Labour MP, Alison McGovern, who stepped in as joint author in her stead. We also worked on the launch, which took place at Policy Exchange in January 2017, and at which former Prime Minister Gordon Brown spoke. We were instrumental in helping gain widespread national media coverage of the report - in every UK newspaper, as well as on Sky, the BBC and ITV.

di:ga were critical in bringing together a range of actors and viewpoints to produce a clear and compelling report and a top class launch strategy. We recommend them unreservedly.
